E-Arrival Card

E-Arrival Card is an electronic portal for registration of foreign nationals arriving or departing Brunei Darussalam, replacing the previous physical paper form (Form 19).

All foreign nationals arriving through sea, air, and land immigration control posts must complete the E-Arrival Card via this website.

Travel Visa

Brunei offers visa-free travel for certain countries for a maximum stay of 90, 30, or 14 days. Travellers can check visa requirements here.

For visa applications, travellers may apply in person at Brunei's Missions Abroad offices or via secure courier if there is no local office.

Currency

The Brunei Dollar (BND) is equivalent to the Singapore Dollar, and SGD is accepted in Brunei. Currency conversion rates for BND1 are approximately:

Bank

ATMs are available at shopping centres, accepting Visa Plus and Mastercard Cirrus cards. Prominent banks include Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Baiduri Bank. International banks include Maybank, Standard Chartered Bank, UOB, RHB, and Bank of China.

Telecommunication (Telco)

Brunei's main telco providers are Datastream Digital, Imagine, and Progresif Cellular. Travellers can buy data packages upon arrival at the airport booths.

Operating Hours

Shops generally open from 9:30 am to 10 pm, with some cafes opening earlier. All establishments close from 12 pm to 2 pm every Friday for Solat Jumaat (Friday Prayers). During Ramadan, dining-in is limited to non-fasting hours.

Customs and Culture

Do:

  • Wear proper attire in mosques. Women must cover their head, shoulders, and knees.
  • Observe silence and respect prayer timings, especially on Fridays.
  • Respect alcohol consumption rules, which are allowed in private areas only.

Don’t:

  • Make loud noises during prayer calls.
  • Wear footwear in mosques.
  • Shake hands with the opposite sex unless initiated by the other person.

Safety

Brunei is generally safe, with a low crime rate. Travelers are advised to keep an eye on belongings, lock car doors, and stay alert at night.
